Bauer Acquires Star Radio, Rebranding it as Hits Radio Cambridgeshire

StarRadio

Bauer Media Audio UK has announced its acquisition of Star Radio in Cambridgeshire, with plans to rebrand the station as Hits Radio Cambridgeshire.

As part of the transition, Star Radio will become a relay of the national Hits Radio network, bringing a full schedule of popular programming, including shows hosted by Fleur East, Gemma Atkinson, and Sam Thompson. While the station’s music and shows will align with the Hits Radio brand, local news and information services will continue to be provided to meet regulatory requirements.

Simon Myciunka, CEO of Bauer Media Audio UK, expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating:
“This move will allow us to connect with even more listeners across Cambridgeshire and unlock greater scale for our local and national commercial partners. A huge thanks to the Star Radio team, who we will work closely with during this transition.”

Freddie Scherer, Managing Director of Star Radio, also shared his gratitude, saying:
“We’d like to thank the staff, listeners, advertisers, and the Cambridgeshire community for the privilege of providing a radio service for the past 24 years.”

Star Radio first launched in 1998 and has undergone multiple rebrands over the years, previously operating as Cambridge Café Radio, Cambridge Red, and The Eagle. The transition to Hits Radio Cambridgeshire is expected to take place over the coming months, bringing a fresh new sound to listeners across the region.
