BBC Radio 1 - Live

BBC Radio 1 is the BBC’s flagship station dedicated to new and contemporary hit music, targeting a young adult audience. Launched on 30 September 1967, it replaced the BBC Light Programme and was established in response to the popularity of offshore pirate radio stations. The station’s first broadcast featured Tony Blackburn, who introduced the station with “Flowers in the Rain” by The Move.

Over the decades, Radio 1 has been at the forefront of music broadcasting, introducing listeners to a diverse range of genres and artists. Its programming includes chart-topping hits, live sessions, and specialist shows that highlight emerging talent.
