BBC Radio Cymru is the BBC’s Welsh-language national radio station, providing a comprehensive mix of news, current affairs, cultural programming, music, and sports, all delivered in Welsh. Broadcasting since 3 January 1977, it serves as a vital platform for Welsh-language media, offering content that reflects the diverse culture and interests of Wales.

The station operates daily from 5:30 AM to midnight, with overnight programming simulcast from the BBC World Service after closedown. It has a weekly audience of approximately 117,000 listeners as of February 2025, with a notable increase in younger listeners aged 15–25.

Programming includes flagship shows such as Bore Cothi hosted by ShΓ’n Cothi, Noson Lawen featuring Caryl Parry Jones, and evening shows with Huw Stephens. BBC Radio Cymru also collaborates with its sister station, BBC Radio Cymru 2, which focuses on music-led programming aimed at a younger audience, broadcasting up to 60 hours a week with at least 50% Welsh-language music content.
