About BBC Radio Tees
BBC Radio Tees is the BBC’s local radio station serving the Tees Valley area in North East England. It began broadcasting on 31 December 1970 as Radio Teesside, making it one of the first BBC Local Radio stations. The station was renamed BBC Radio Cleveland in 1974, BBC Tees in 2007, and finally BBC Radio Tees in 2020 to align with the BBC’s naming conventions.
The station broadcasts a mix of local news, talk, music, and sports programming. It is based at Broadcasting House on Newport Road in Middlesbrough and serves towns including Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, and Whitby.
Local programming is produced and broadcast from the BBC’s Middlesbrough studios from 6 am to 10 pm each day. From 10 pm, the station carries the England-wide late show, and from 1 am, it simulcasts BBC Radio 5 Live.
