BBC Radio York is the BBC’s local radio station serving the county of North Yorkshire. Launched on 4 July 1983 as BBC North Yorkshire, the station was rebranded as BBC Radio York in 1994 to better reflect its regional identity. Broadcasting from its studios in the Bootham area of York, the station provides a mix of local news, talk, music, and sports programming.

The station’s programming includes local news updates, interviews, and discussions on topics relevant to North Yorkshire residents. It also features a variety of music genres, catering to diverse tastes within the community. Sports coverage includes local football, rugby, and other regional events, providing comprehensive commentary and analysis.

BBC Radio York broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV, and online via BBC Sounds. Until 24 February 2020, the station was also available on medium wave, but these transmitters were closed as part of a cost-cutting measure.

With a weekly audience of 60,000 listeners and a 4.6% share as of December 2023, BBC Radio York continues to be a trusted source of information and entertainment for the people of North Yorkshire.
