BBC Radio Surrey

BBC Radio Surrey - Live

BBC Radio Surrey is the BBC’s local radio station serving the English county of Surrey and parts of north-east Hampshire. It commenced broadcasts on 14 November 1991 and is based at the University of Surrey in Guildford. The station offers a mix of local news, talk, sport, and music programming tailored to the communities it serves.

The station broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV, and via BBC Sounds. FM frequencies include 104.0 MHz for Reigate, Crawley, East Grinstead, and 104.6 MHz for Guildford and Godalming. DAB transmissions are provided via the MuxCo Surrey multiplex (Block 10C), which officially launched on 12 December 2013. BBC Radio Surrey was the first BBC Local Radio station to introduce an all-speech format.

In 2004, Radio Surrey was named Station of the Year in the Sony Radio Academy Awards. However, significant cuts to BBC Local Radio introduced by Tim Davie during his tenure as Director General of the BBC reduced the content produced in Surrey to less than a quarter of the station’s output in late Summer 2023.

Local programming is now only produced and broadcast from the BBC’s Guildford studios from 6 am to 10 am on weekdays and from 2 pm to 6 pm on Saturdays, with no local coverage at all on Sundays. There are two exceptions to this: two one-hour sports shows on Mondays and Fridays at 6 pm and live football commentary during AFC Wimbledon men’s matches.
