Launched on 11-12-1998 as Champion 103, the station was the first commercial broadcaster covering Anglesey and Gwynedd in full. In March 2009, it became Heart Cymru following Global Radio’s acquisition of the Marcher Radio Group. On 06-05-2014, the station joined the Capital FM Network and was rebranded as Capital Cymru, integrating local programming with the national hit music brand.

Until 21-02-2025, Capital Cymru featured Welsh-language shows and music, highlighting contemporary Welsh artists. Following Ofcom’s relaxation of local content rules, the station now simulcasts select programming from Capital North West and North Wales while maintaining local news and event updates.
