Heart South Wales originally launched as Red Dragon FM in 1980, serving Cardiff, Newport, and the surrounding areas with local music, news, and entertainment. The station became a key part of the region’s radio landscape over the following decades.

In March 2009, Red Dragon FM was rebranded as Heart, joining Global Radio’s Heart Network. Today, Heart South Wales plays the biggest hits and feel-good favourites, alongside local news, travel updates, and entertainment for listeners across South Wales.
