Hits Radio North East, formerly Metro Radio, is a popular local radio station based in Newcastle upon Tyne, broadcasting across County Durham, Northumberland, and Tyne and Wear. Originally launched as Metro Radio in 1974, the station rebranded to Hits Radio North East in April 2024, aligning with Bauer’s network-wide relaunch. Despite the name change, local content remains, including Steve & Karen’s Breakfast Show (weekdays 6-10am).
