About Manx Radio Gold
Established in 1964, Manx Radio is the Isle of Man’s national public service broadcaster, operating from Broadcasting House in Douglas. As the island’s first radio station, it began on 89.0 MHz FM from a caravan in Onchan, overcoming challenges like skidding records and cramped studios. Over the decades, the station expanded its coverage with additional AM and FM channels, eventually becoming the trusted voice across the island’s hilly terrain.
Recognized as the National Public Service Broadcaster in 2002 and enshrined in legislation in 2014, Manx Radio transitioned ownership to the independent Manx Radio Trust in 2023, safeguarding its independence. That year also marked the launch of DAB+ broadcasting, paving the way for modern, energy-efficient services as it phases out its legacy AM platform. Manx Radio continues to inform, educate, and entertain the Isle of Man.
