About Vectis Radio
Vectis Radio is a local community station broadcasting from Newport, Isle of Wight. It launched online on January 23, 2010, before expanding to FM 104.6 on November 4, 2017, transmitting from Newport Golf Club.
Founded by Ian Mac, the station started in a small studio at The Quay Arts Centre, later moving to The Riverside Centre in 2013. In 2017, it became a Community Interest Company (CIC), reinforcing its commitment to local voices with the slogan “for the people, by the people.”
After securing an FM license from Ofcom in 2016, a crowdfunding campaign helped bring the station to FM broadcasting in 2017.
The 4Ps Project, launched in 2012, trains young people (11-19, or up to 25 with additional needs) in Presenting, Producing, Podcasting, and Promoting. This initiative has won multiple awards, including Community Radio Gold Awards in 2021.
