XS Manchester Alternative Radio Station Closes, Rebrands to Radio X 90s

RadioX

Popular Manchester-based alternative radio station XS Manchester aired its final broadcast on February 21, 2025, bringing an end to its long-standing presence in the city’s music scene. Known for championing indie and alternative music, XS Manchester has been a staple for music lovers across the North West.

The closure comes as part of a wider national restructuring by Global, which will see the station rebranded to Radio X 90s, focusing on 90s hits nationwide.

In an emotional farewell post on social media, XS Manchester shared: “To everyone who’s listened over the many, many years – in all our different guises – thank you.”

This change also impacts well-known North West radio shows, including ‘The Rob Ellis Show’ with Rob, Rachel, and Wingman on Capital, which will reportedly be replaced by a London-based broadcast.

For fans of alternative radio in Manchester, the closure of XS Manchester marks the end of an era, as the station transitions to a new chapter under the Radio X 90s brand.
