BBC Radio London is the BBC’s local radio station serving Greater London. It was launched on 6 October 1970, broadcasting initially on 95.3 MHz VHF from Wrotham, Kent, and later expanding to 1457 kHz MW in 1972 and 94.9 MHz VHF in 1973. The station was the fourth in the BBC’s second wave of local radio stations and the 12th overall.
Over the years, BBC Radio London has undergone several transformations. In 1988, it was rebranded as Greater London Radio (GLR) and continued in that format until 2000, when it returned to its original name, BBC Radio London. The station provides a comprehensive mix of local news, talk, music, and sports programming, keeping the community informed and connected.
The station broadcasts on multiple platforms, including FM (94.9 MHz), DAB, Freeview (721), and online via BBC Sounds, ensuring accessibility for all listeners across its coverage area.
